THE Tech Savvy project at ‘that meeting space’ has now come to an end after successfully training three groups of ‘tech-nervy’ people on how to navigate the digital world.
“The project was first launched after a need to help for those who were digitally excluded was identified during the Tuesday morning drop-ins at ‘that meeting space’,” reports John Firth.
“Myles Pilling and Laura Martin volunteered to put on a course, which was in such demand that it was held three times just to get through those who originally applied.
“Now those who have completed the course have a new confidence online. They have learned to navigate the internet, send and receive emails, make GP appointments, shop online and connect with family and friends on video.
“The three courses were led by Myles and Laura, assisted by Simon Pooley, all of whom volunteered their time and expertise to help people feel more confident with technology. Each of the participants receive a certificate marking the completion of their training.
“Tech Savvy at ‘that meeting space’ may be over, but as the library opens in the new campus there will be more opportunities for those who are struggling with their smartphones, tablets and iPads to get the help they so badly need.”
