MELKSHAM villages are celebrating after achieving great results in the first round of Wiltshire’s Best Kept Village competition, with Shaw progressing to the next round.
Representatives from Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) visited the villages last month for the first round of the competition.
Shaw was placed first in the medium village category and will move on to the next round, where they stand the chance of being crowned Wiltshire’s Best Kept Village in the medium category. In the same category Berryfield came fourth and Whitley was sixth.
Bowerhill came second in the large village category. “I’d like to thank all the residents of Bowerhill for their time and effort. Especially those that went out litter picking, almost every day,” said chairman of Bowerhill Residents Action Group (BRAG) Mike Mills.
“Thanks to all the members of BRAG who planted trees and flowers around the area. This is all to make Bowerhill a better and more attractive place to live.”
Full of praise for the village teams, clerk for Melksham Without Parish Council, Teresa Strange said, “Well done to all the action groups, BRAG, Community Action – Whitley & Shaw (CAWS) and Berryfield and Semington Road Residents Action Group (BASRAG). And to the volunteers who have cleaned, tidied, planted and care for their well-kept villages.”
