This year has been another jam-packed year, with much to be proud of.
Headteacher Jackie Chalk reports, “The children are always keen to support others who are less fortunate – either in ways that the school have suggested, or in ways that they have chosen themselves. We have continued to support Melksham Foodbank and made a sizeable collection of donation at harvest time.
“The children, inspired by a lesson on the cocoa farmers, asked to run a bake sale as they were so concerned about their living conditions and the fact they only get paid 75p a week. As a result, £135 was raised for Fair Trade.
“School council also organised various activities for Children in Need and as a result raised £145.
“We continue to take part in a variety of sporting competitions and tournaments, including cross country, netball and football and for the third year running, we won the Melksham School’s Swimming gala.
“Class trips are always a highlight for the children and this year they have enjoyed trips to Avebury, We the Curious, and residentials to Danywenalt and Braeside.
“The children really look forward to taking part in The Summer Reading Challenge and again this year we were the top performing school in Melksham, with 59% of our children completing the challenge to read 6 books over the summer holidays.
“Some home learning has resulted in many of the children trying to complete the “50 things to do before you are 11 ¾” and a project on inspirational women to commemorate 100 years since women first won the right to vote.
“Just before we broke up in July, the older children successfully entertained us with a performance of What a Knight and this year has been rounded off beautifully with a Nativity called A Christmas Truce, that finishes our commemorations of the 100 years since the Great War.”
