Sat. 18th August. WCCL Division 5
Melksham CC-1st XI 119-5 – Westbury & District-2nd XI
115 all out
THE new season of rugby is fast approaching and Melksham RFC is looking to welcome new players to start training, both men and women of all ages.
Whether you have played before or want to start playing, the men’s, women’s and youth teams will welcome you to their new training sessions that start this month.
If you are under 15, training commences at 10am every Sunday morning at Melksham Rugby Football Club at Oakfields. They are currently looking for more players to get involved, especially young girls – to prove that girls can play rugby too!
“There is a friendly atmosphere and coaches will be on hand to train you in the basics right up to a very advanced level,” said Bruce Sanders from the club. “It is also a great opportunity to make new friends. The team works hard to work towards their core values of teamwork, respect, sportsmanship and discipline.
“The men’s team train every Tuesday and Thursday from 7pm and the women train every Wednesday from 6.30pm. People of all experiences are welcome to go along and become part of the Melksham rugby family.
“The new facility in Melksham has encouraged people to join the game and the club is thriving, from the youth right through to seniors, including the girls’ and women’s teams.
“Melksham RFC has a great team feeling both on the pitch and around the clubhouse.
“The youth teams from under 6s to under 12s in all clubs do not participate in a league system, so competitive matches are more about player involvement rather than the pressure on the result. That’s not to say you do not play to win, but the coaches work on the development and improvement of each player. At under-13 and above, a more competitive element is introduced with matches in local leagues, together with the opportunity to be considered for the county teams.
“Both boys and girls are very welcome in the club and like the ladies’ section, this is growing in popularity. The men’s seniors field three teams on a regular basis, which again allows for player development.”
The new season starts the first week in September.
