Atworth WI held their July meeting on Monday 15th.
Some members had enjoyed a visit to Wiltshire Music Centre to see a screening of Madam Butterfly coming from Glyndebourne.
Orders were taken for calendars and diaries for 2019 and raffle tickets were available for the NFWI annual raffle. Members were invited to sign up for a Skittles Night at The White Hart in Atworth on July 30th.
To celebrate 2019 as the centenary of the Wiltshire Federation, each WI has been invited to contribute a hand-crafted square which should capture the essence of your WI and where you come from. These will be joined together to make four wall hangings which will be taken to various centenary events and will eventually be hung in WI House.
The competition for ‘an interesting item from my sewing box’ was won by Frankie Williams.
Sarah Bottomley spoke to us about her quilting journey. It was a fascinating, relaxed and very interesting talk, illustrated with some beautiful and intricate examples of her quilting projects over many years.
It was inspiring to hear how she had travelled to many countries because her husband was posted there and how each time she found a group that was interested in quilting. Eventually she found herself instructing enthusiastic groups.
We are looking forward to our annual cream tea, which is held in a member’s garden in August and hope that the weather will be fine on that occasion.
Our next meeting at the Village Hall, Atworth, will be on Monday 17th September, when we will hear about The Wilts and Berks Canal Trust.
