BOLLARDS and low level fencing are to be installed at King George V playing field to restrict unauthorised access to the park.
Councillors approved the installation at a meeting this month of the town council’s asset management and amenities committee, confirming that the bollards and low level fencing will still allow access to the park when necessary.
“The amenities manager is aware that events like the food and river festival and Party in the Park still need access to the park,” said the assistant to the town clerk, Patsy Clover, in response to concerns raised by the chair of the Melksham Food and River Festival, Adrienne Westbrook.
The town council first discussed exploring options to secure King George V playing field to prevent misuse of the land in 2018, following an incident involving an unauthorised encampment that forced the relocation of their children’s summer activities day.
