Lacock School’s annual Scarecrow Trail starts on Saturday 24th until Monday 26th May.
It is a family trail around the picturesque village of Lacock, with nearly 50 scarecrows and models on the theme of ‘countries’, with an additional pre-school children’s trail. with its own theme of ‘animals of the world.’
Every year the event attracts thousands of visitors to the village, a fun family day out and all helping to raise money for the local primary school. In its 12th year, the trail has raised thousands of pounds for the village school which has benefited from new equipment, library books and the refurbishment of a new computer suite.
Headteacher Richard Hearn said, “The Scarecrow Trail is a fantastic event and I am looking forward to seeing the wonderful creations around the village. The fantastic support provided by the Friends of Lacock School allows us to provide a greater range of experiences for the children.”
Local businesses get behind the school’s efforts by sponsoring the event. Main sponsors in previous years have been Whitehall Garden Centre in Lacock, Sign Marketing in Melksham and Watlings Jewellery again very generously donating a £300 gift voucher to the winner of the trail.
Visitors can expect a fete-like atmosphere and will have the opportunity to spend the day at the village well known for its starring role in “Cranford” and other period dramas like “Pride and Prejudice”. The Abbey and grounds are open to the public.
