Melksham RFC Ladies had their first game of the season and dominated from the start.
The first 10 minutes was all about Melksham pushing into the Devizes half, then from a short counter attack Devizes got the first score.
From then on it was toe- to-toe attack followed by counter attacks. Solid tackling from Kirsty Compton and Charlotte Wellon frustrated Devizes and then confident rucking from Rachel Barnett, Cara Wallace and Becky Burchell kept the ball in Melksham hands. Both teams showed good discipline. Accurate passing between Elisha Griffin, Lacey Walters and Danielle Allison allowed Melksham to open up Devizes’ defence and score twice before half time.
The second half was a gritty contest, but again Melksham dominated with confidence. Devizes struggled to keep Melksham out and then a quickly-played penalty saw Melksham get their third try.
Devizes seemed to slow down in the last minutes of the game and Melksham put a fourth try away on the full time whistle.
Captain on the day was Danielle Allison and player of the match was Becky Burchell.
Ladies train Wednesday evenings 7pm, check the club website for details. New players welcome
