MELKSHAM Carnival Committee will be holding its annual lantern parade this month, and is inviting children to make their own and take part.
This year’s Melksham Carnival Lantern Parade is set for Friday 11th December. The parade will start by the Christmas tree in the Market Place, gathering at 5.30pm and setting off at 6pm to walk through the centre of town.
Carnival committee secretary Beth Dark said, “Everyone is invited to take part as groups, families or individuals. It’s a lovely way to bring our community together and spread Christmas cheer for free!
“So get designing, planning and making your lanterns. Lanterns can be any size or shape and can be made from any safe material as long as there are no naked flames involved.”
The parade will finish at the Littlebrook Centre where the lanterns will be judged and awards given for the best lanterns. Everyone will be invited to stay for carol singing with treats, hot chocolate and chestnuts available from Honey’s and CJ’s. The proceedings will close at 7.30pm.
