Measures being put in place to enable residents to travel and shop safely
Wiltshire Council is set to receive £227,000 of government funding to support the use of temporary and pop-up measures to create a safe environment for walking and cycling. Following significant changes in travel behaviours during COVID-19 which saw more people choosing to walk and cycle during their daily exercise.
Local theatre under financial threat
West End Producer, Sonia Friedman, says 70 per cent of our performing arts companies will be out of business before the end of this year. More than 1,000 theatres around the country will be insolvent and might shut down for good.

Plans to invest in special school education moved a step forward today after Government officials gave the green light to a key part of the process to provide additional school places in north Wiltshire.
Street markets back selling full range of products
Following the recent change to Government guidance, Wiltshire Council’s street markets will be open from Monday 1 June 2020 with stallholders now able to sell their full range of goods. When Government COVID-19 restrictions were introduced, market stalls were only able to sell food, but now they can sell all items again.
New booklet helps families prepare for return to school
A new information booklet to help parents prepare their children for the return to school has been produced. Wiltshire Council has created a short guide with some tips to help families prepare as early years settings and schools plan to welcome more children from certain year groups from 1 June.
Parking charges to be reintroduced at all Wiltshire Council car parks
Wiltshire Council will reintroduce parking charges at all car parks, and on residential and on-street parking areas in the county from Monday 1 June. All parking permits and season tickets will also restart from this date, and parking wardens will enforce any parking contraventions in the county.
Wiltshire company offers helping hand to schools
A Wiltshire company is offering a helping hand by donating 3,000 hand sanitisers to local schools as they prepare for the summer term. Meiyume, based in Trowbridge, is providing the kit and Wiltshire Council’s passenger transport unit is organising the logistics so all schools will have them in the summer term.
Timings to change at pedestrian crossings as first road layout changes progress
Wiltshire Council is making changes to the time it takes for signal controlled pedestrian crossings to turn to the green man to reduce the amount of time pedestrians are stood at a crossing, and in turn aid social distancing.
