The Leekes home department store in Melksham welcomed thousands of bargain hunters looking to snap up special Boxing Day savings, and posted strong sales figures during the first day of the company’s Biggest Ever Half Price sale.
Whilst there was an increase in sales across most categories, the popularity of their sofa and dining ranges, small electrical products and accessories such as mirrors and pictures continued and accounted for a big proportion of the first day’s sales.
As predicted, branded products such as Dyson vacuum cleaners and Morphy Richards kettles and toasters were amongst the best volume sellers. The Leekes Casa furniture range also recorded strong sales figures as customers enjoyed up to half price savings on sofas, dining sets and beds.
Since the home department store chain launched the Leekes Privilege Card it has proved to be extremely popular with nearly 40,000 customers already signed up for the scheme. Cardholders can enjoy a free cup of tea or filter coffee during weekdays and receive priority notifications of in store news and events as well as exclusive offers.
Commenting on the success of the start to the sale Emma Leeke, managing director at Leekes said, “Over the last few months, we’ve focused on sourcing a wide range of good quality products across all our product categories at exceptional prices for our Winter Sale. And with more sale lines, greater stocks and better savings, it really is our Biggest Ever Half Price sale and our customers have responded by taking advantage of these great offers.
“Our store teams have worked incredibly hard over the festive period to ensure that customers receive the best shopping experience and find everything they need to create the perfect look for their home.
“We have seen a double digit uplift in sales this year and, if Boxing Day trading is an indication of things to come, this looks set to continue through the sale. Many customers appear to have waited until Boxing Day to purchase items for their home and to start planning a New Year installation project.
“We also saw a significant increase in visitors to our website on Christmas Day with customers both purchasing and browsing our sale bargains online. We launched our new look website earlier this year and also introduced the ability to click and collect which have improved the shopping experience for our customers.”
