LIDL have applied to extend their New Broughton Road supermarket in Melksham by building on the Unicorn pub car park next door.
A planning application has been submitted which will increase the supermarket by over 700 square metres and which would mean the loss of the car park for the Unicorn pub which is currently closed.
The plans include a new instore bakery.
The sales area of the store would increase by 157 square metres from 1127m2 to 1285m2 with extra warehousing space up 377 square metres and ancillary space by 129 square metres.
“The proposed development seeks to increase the store’s internal area by extending the warehouse and staff amenity facilities into the car park to the rear of the Unicorn pub,” says the application.
“The development creates a bottle recycling facility adjacent to the front entrance of the store for easy access, whilst creating a new in-store bakery and increased sales area.”
Plans can be viewed on the Wiltshire Council website. The planning application number is PL/2021/09341
