A LOCAL pensioner has returned after competing in the FIM Sidecar World Championship in Germany.
72-year-old Kenneth Williams from Atworth was World Champion in sidecar racing in 1978 with his partner Rolf Biland and was invited to attend and race at this year’s World Championships in Germany.
Kenneth said, “I was invited back to the championships this year and raced with driver Peter Schwegler who I met when I was racing professionally.
“I was so pleased to return and take part because I love the adrenaline of the sport. We reach 160mph but is a fantastic feeling. My favourite part is waiting on the grid and seeing the lights go from red to green and then we are off! You can’t beat that feeling.
“We came second in two of our races which I was pleased with and I’ve been asked back next year.”
