MELKSHAM Community Larder has featured on BBC Points West, as part of a news segment about reducing food waste.
A news reporter from BBC Points West came to Melksham to interview organiser of the larder Adrienne Westbrook, Jessica Thimbleby from Wiltshire Wildlife Community Energy, who has been delivering energy advice sessions across the town, and Kody who is the Wiltshire ambassador for Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, who has been working to promote Waste Free February, the challenge encouraging people to start reducing food waste.
Adrienne said, “It was fascinating! These days everything is filmed on an iphone camera with a small clip-on microphone. It’s no longer on a big camera that’s on wheels.
“I was interviewed about the Community Larder and how we are working to reduce food waste and clothing now with the Community Wardrobe. I explained how, if food is not taken, it will go to compost or animal feed. Nothing goes to landfill.
“The larder has been supporting such a huge volume of people. We saw quite a large wave using the larder at the end of January, around when pay day is. I expect we will probably see the same again at the end of February. Things are really severe for people. I had expected it to be bad but I didn’t expect it to be quite as severe as it is.”
