Local groups and charities have been given a funding boost after Melksham Lions Club raised £5,500 with its annual Santa Float.
Children’s hospice Julia’s House, mental health charity Wiltshire Mind, and Melksham Christmas Lights Group were all given funds after the Santa Float journeyed around the town collecting donations in the run-up to Christmas.
Lions Club President Simon White said, “On behalf of the Melksham Lions Club, I would like to thank all the people of Melksham and the surrounding area who have always been so generous, especially at Christmas, as we have raised, with your help, £5,500, which is a fantastic result.
“Our thanks and gratitude also go out to all the local businesses, large and small alike, who always are and have been so supportive of our efforts. Thank you all so very much.”
The Lions’ Club has also been raising funds to help the Freewheelers Blood Bikes charity purchase a new motorbike to transport blood to local hospitals and the air ambulance.
Simon said, “We have, to date, raised 84% towards helping them purchase another motorbike. All of the staff and riders are volunteers. It is a very good cause.”
“Once again, thank you all for your generosity. Also, if you like what we do and how we do it, come and join our friendly club and give as much time as you have spare.”
This year, the club is set to host a Melksham Lions Teddy Picnic event at Forest Community Centre on 18th July from 10am to 4pm.
“It will be similar to our 50th Celebration that we had in Melksham Park in September 2024,” said Simon. “There will be lots of things going on, so please make a note of the date and bring the whole family along to enjoy it, and don’t forget to bring your teddies.
“We have already started planning our annual Easter hampers, which will be in shops and businesses around town, plus many other activities throughout the year.
“If you like what we do and how we do it, come and join our friendly club and give as much time as you have spare.”
