THERE’S so much entertainment coming up at Melksham Assembly Hall so there’s no need to travel out of town to see live music, exciting shows or the latest cinema releases.
The Pitmen Poets take the stage on Tuesday 14th February to celebrate the songs, humour, and culture of North East England’s coal mining tradition, bringing together four of the region’s leading champions of its musical heritage.
Former Lindisfarne singer and writer Billy Mitchell, songman from London’s West End musical Warhorse, Bob Fox, leading exponent of Tyneside song Benny Graham, and much-covered Folk Awards nominee songwriter Jez Lowe – individually and collectively the Pitmen Poets. Tickets cost £18.
The Smyths are coming to the Assembly Hall on Saturday 18th February. The Smyths are the leading tribute band covering all the music from The Smiths. The Smyths globally renown for their tribute shows which they have performed for over 10 years. Tickets £13 in advance, £15 on the door.
Bob Drury presents… Viva Neil Diamond – celebrating 50 years of hits! on Friday 3rd March.
To celebrate Neil Diamond’s 50 year recording career, the UK’s very own ‘voice of Neil’ Bob Drury (The Neil Diamond Story) presents a brand new one-man stage show simply bursting with Neil Diamond gems! Enjoy once more all the hits including Sweet Caroline, Forever In Blue Jeans, Love on the Rocks, America, Hello Again, Play Me, Beautiful Noise, Song Sung Blue, I’m A Believer, Red Red Wine, and many, many more. Tickets are £15.

Birth of a Nation (15) Friday 17th February, 7.30pm. Nate Turner is an enslaved Baptist preacher who lives on a Virginia plantation owned by Samuel Turner. With rumours of insurrection in the air, a cleric convinces Samuel that Nate should sermonise to other slaves, thereby quelling any notions of an uprising. As Nate witnesses the horrific treatment of his fellow man, he realises that he can no longer just stand by.
Finding Dory (PG) Saturday 25th February, 10.30am. Dory is a wide-eyed, blue tang fish who suffers from memory loss every 10 seconds or so. The one thing she can remember is that she somehow became separated from her parents as a child. With help from her friends Nemo and Marlin, Dory embarks on an epic adventure to find them.
Her journey brings her to the Marine Life Institute, a conservatory that houses diverse ocean species. Dory now knows that her family reunion will only happen if she can save mum and dad from captivity.
Moana (PG) Saturday 4th March, 10.30am. A sweeping, CG-animated adventure about a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master Wayfinder and fulfil her ancestors’ unfinished quest.

Cinema tickets for the 10.30am performances are £3 for under 15s; £4/6 for adults. For the 7:30pm shows all tickets are £6 or two time credits. They are available on the night or in advance at Melksham Assembly Hall (01225 709887). Doors open 30 minutes before the movie.
