Atworth-based Nigel and Lucie Horton are running the London Marathon in April to raise money for MQ: Transforming mental health, a charity dedicated to funding research into mental health.
The father and daughter duo have been training hard in the local area and are determined to complete the 26.2 miles on April 28th in the UK’s most famous race. Lucie, 25, says, “Mental health is a cause really close to our hearts – and with one in four people affected by mental illness – it’s something that touches everyone, whether directly or indirectly.
“We’re determined to raise lots of money for MQ and are excited to be hosting our live music and pizza night fundraiser at Lowden Garden Centre on 26th January, we’d love local people to come down and support us!”
Nigel, 57, says, “The last time I was running was when I was in school, so this has been a huge challenge so far – with still a lot of training to do. We’ll be crossing the finish line together, although I suspect this means Lucie will have to wait for me! But I couldn’t think of a better cause to be running for – it’s so important that we understand more about mental health and MQ is a fantastic charity.”
Nigel and Lucie are hosting a live music and pizza night at Lowden Garden Centre in Shaw on 26th January as part of their fundraising. The event kicks off at 7.30pm with live music from talented Bristol covers band ‘Oblio’, singer-songwriter Rachel Butterworth and DJ. Tickets are £10 and are available by emailing lucie.nigel.mq @gmail.com or texting Nigel on 07971 833 151. Get some friends together and reserve a table!
