The Shaw and Whitley Friendship Club would welcome new members to join the club, after two tough years of enforced isolation.
Meeting every Wednesday at Shaw Village Hall at The Beeches, the club runs from 10am-1.30pm and is open to anyone aged 65+ who would like to make connections in the community.
Those attending the club chat, play games, drink tea or coffee and have the option to stay for a home-cooked two-course lunch that is made on the premises, costing members £3.50 per week.
Angela Pugsley, a member from the club said, “Some people come just for the chat, tea, coffee and morning games and others like to stay for the lunch and activities after that too. We have all sorts of activities, we play scrabble, quizzes, bingo and we give out prizes”.
The 20-year-old club met weekly pre-pandemic and had a membership of around 30. “But when we returned after the lockdowns, the membership had been reduced to at least half,” said Angela. “We would like to welcome new members and invite people to join us to connect with others, form friendships and live a happy life.”
As well as the weekly meetings, the club also organises daytrips for members to get out and about. In September the club is running a trip to Weston-super-Mare that is free of charge for all members.
“Any member is welcome to join the trip to Weston-super-Mare”, said Angela. “If people want to join the club they just need to ring me for more information on 01225 707 170.”
