A LOCAL magician has joined an illustrious list of names who have appeared on the front cover of the International Brotherhood of Magicians magazine.
Jack Stephens appears on the front cover for the October issue and follows in the footsteps of stars who have appeared in the magazine such as Derren Brown, Paul Daniels and John Archer – the magician who fooled Penn and Teller on the ITV series.
The magazine is an in-house magicians’ magazine which has over 1,000 members and is published on a monthly basis.
Jack said, “It is an honour for me to be featured on the front cover of the in-house magazine of the International Brotherhood of Magicians. There are 1,000 members and only 12 a year get to be on the front cover, so I am in good company indeed. It benefits my magic career as it gives me a higher standing amongst my peers. It is a good selling point too of course to tell prospective clients that I have been featured in the magazine.
“The highlight of my career without any doubt is having entertained Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II with my close up magic. For me, the next request could be for a five year-old’s birthday party in Bowerhill Village Hall, or it could be to fly to Dubai for two nights to entertain the Royal family. I just never know.
“There is a good anecdote regarding my entertainment of the Queen, which was featured in a book of magic celebrating her life. I do balloon modelling as well as magic and I made the Queen a poodle (I do not know how to make a corgi) and as I gave it to her I said, ‘Ma’am this is a corgi, going to a fancy dress party as a poodle! I got a lot of laughs from the table that night.”
