Before half term, on Wednesday 10th February, The Manor School held a Progress and Achievement afternoon/evening.
In the ongoing efforts to support and inform parents and pupils, they invited the Melksham Neighbourhood Policing team regarding Cyber Crime, SHINE Wiltshire and Spurgeon’s Young Carers, to have an information stand.
Cyber Crime is a National issue where innocent members of the public become victims of crime through the cyber world. The purpose of the Melksham NPT visit at The Manor was to raise awareness not only to pupils but parents and staff with security settings on their personal devices such as laptops and mobile phones.
The Melksham NPT demonstrated this through an interactive film showing an angry ‘Facebook Stalker’ infiltrating personal information to the point where personal photographs and home address could be identified.
Acting Sergeant Kane Fulbrook-Smith and PCSO Janet Gould believe the message it gave out was very simple, and achieved the desired objective to highlight how easy it can be to obtain such information, but at the same time giving the opportunity to parents, staff and pupils to re-set their security settings and profiles.
This delivery was an expansion of their recent visits when Melksham NPT came into the school to deliver lesson plans on Cyber Bullying; again this was well received and very effective with the pupils.
Other stands on display was SHINE Wiltshire and Spurgeon’s Young Carers. SHINE Wiltshire is a free healthy lifestyle programme for seven – 11 year olds and their families. It is specially designed to support young people who are above a healthy weight. Contact details are telephone 01225 716674 or email Shine@wiltshire.gov.uk
