LOCAL solicitor firm, Goughs, has chosen Scotty’s Little Soldiers as its Charity of the Year and will be raising funds through a series of gruelling events.
Scotty’s Little Soldiers supports children and young people who have experienced the death of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces.
The team at Goughs will be partaking in a variety of events and challenges over the year, kicking off with the Corsham 10k on Sunday 21st April, that will see eight team members take on the challenge. The Scotty’s virtual marathon on Friday 31st May will then take place before a cycling challenge, ‘Tour de Scotty’, later in the summer.
A spokesperson for Goughs said, “Scotty’s Little Soldiers aims to provide long-term support to the child and work to maintain their connection to the Armed Forces community. They want every bereaved British Forces child to have access to the very best emotional support, outstanding development opportunities, and the chance to smile again.
“With Wiltshire’s close ties to the military, Goughs has a long-established Armed Forces sector that looks to provide specialist legal advice to those serving, as well as veterans of the Armed Forces. This year’s charity of the year is therefore intrinsically linked to the values and ethos of the firm.”
Partner at Goughs, Emma Taylor, said, “Once again, we received so many incredibly worthy applications to become our Charity of the Year, that selecting just one was extremely tricky. Once narrowed down by the selection committee, the firm then voted for the charity they wanted to fundraise for and personally support. For me, supporting bereaved children in Wiltshire and beyond is something I am really proud to be part of. We look forward to seeing what the year ahead brings and what we can achieve collaboratively.”
Nikki Scott, who founded Scotty’s in 2010, following the death of her husband Cpl Lee Scott in Afghanistan, said, “Thank you so much to Goughs for selecting Scotty’s as their Charity of the Year. We currently support over 650 bereaved military children and young people aged 0 – 25 years. Money raised by Goughs will enable us to continue providing our members with a range of support throughout their childhood, including access to one-to-one bereavement support, personal education and learning assistance, and fun activities such as holiday respite breaks and group events, all designed to remind them they are not alone.”
