Peter & Linda Maslen, and Laura Gregson have won the ‘Hunt for the Red Roses Challenge’ that was organised by the Bloom in Melksham Group in the two weeks leading up to the Queen’s Birthday celebrations.
There are many streets in Melksham with names of trees or flowers, so the Bloom in Melksham Group created a treasure hunt – hiding a red rose on one house on each of these streets – to encourage people to discover new parts of Melksham.
Hilary McFall and the Crazy about Knitting Club knitted dozens of red roses that went in the windows of one house on each street.
Mayor of Melksham, cllr Terri Welch, who organised the treasure hunt said, “Thanks to all the houses that took part, and thank you to the many people who went around Melksham hunting or the red roses.
“We have two winners and we have two amazing prizes donated by Mr Bruce Petty. Bruce Petty has the most spectacular garden and has won Melksham in Bloom many years in a row. The hanging baskets he has contributed have been very carefully created and are worth hundreds of pounds.”
Second prize, with 40 out of 42 roses found, was Peter and Linda Maslen, and first prize, with 42 out of 42 roses found, was Laura Gregson.
Laura said, “It was such a fantastic day out. My daughter and I got on our bikes and went all round Melksham finding the roses. We’ve lived in this area for 17 years but still discovered some lovely new places and had a really great time. Thank you for organising it. I will take great care of my beautiful hanging basket!”
