MELKSHAM choir, Macapello, will be performing a free summer concert at the United Church in Melksham on Wednesday 19th July to raise money for Winston’s Wish.
Macapello was set up five years ago and is run by Dave King and Lisa and now has 30 members. They sing a wide range of uplifting acappella songs from all around the world and there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
The free summer concert will be supporting Winston’s Wish which was established by Julie Stokes OBE, a clinical psychologist, in 1992 to meet the needs of bereaved children and their families. The idea took root when Julie visited the US and Canada on a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellowship. Having been inspired by the services she saw there, Julie returned to the UK and set up Winston’s Wish.
As the first charity to establish child bereavement support services in the UK, they continue to lead the way in providing specialist child bereavement support services across the UK, including in-depth therapeutic help in individual, group and residential settings.
The charity understands the impact of bereavement at a young age and has developed a range of practical support and guidance on bereavement to children, their families and professionals via a national helpline and publications for all ages. They offer specialist support programmes for children affected by deaths related to murder, manslaughter, suicide or the military community. They believe in a society where every bereaved child has access to support, as and when they need it.
The choir is a friendly group who enjoy singing with an emphasis on having fun together. They welcome anyone who wants to sing, regardless of experience, and all the music is taught by ear. If you’re interested in joining the choir, contact Dave at dave.soundworld@gmail.com.
In order to book your tickets for the concert, which are £6 in advance and £7 on the door, call 01225 920400 or email ebidondi@uwclub.net.
