Melksham’s Macapello choir is holding their very first public concert at the Melksham United Church on Wednesday 10th December at 7.30pm.
The Concert of Winter Songs will include a wonderfully wide range of music including Tudor carols, a Simon and Garfunkel pop classic, an Eastern European drinking song, a Fleet Foxes’ track and more. Macapello will be joined by their sister choir the Shepton Mallet A Cappello Choir (SMACC).
The two community choirs will share the programme with up and coming vocal sextet Folkophony, singing arrangements of winter and Christmas music by Michael Deason-Barrow and Guy Wilson.
Guy, the musical director of the two choirs, has been carefully coaching Macapello since they began two years ago. In that time, the choirs have begun to build a reputation in the community choir world. He said, “Up until now we’ve just been singing for the sheer joy of it, but it’s always good to have the opportunity to show off what we do to the local community.
“Macapello have performed songs with SMACC in the past, and the combined sound of 50-60 voices is a wonderful experience for performers and audience alike.”
Members of Macapello are excited to have a chance to perform in front of friends, family and anyone who would enjoy a toe-tapping, heart warming evening of songs. The choir is open to anyone, with no audition, and singers learn by heart so not being able to read music is not a problem.
Member Rachael Holtom said, “Singing is a brilliant hobby. No matter how busy I have been in the day, I find I can forget all those pressures and relax when I sing.
“Macapello’s members are a great crowd of people to be with and the sound we make together is a joy to listen to. Spaces will exist to join the choir in the New Year, so I would recommend coming to hear us sing at the concert.”
