MELKSHAM’S Baptist Church Hall was full to bursting for the end of term concert on July 20th by Macapello, Melksham’s Community Choir, a fundraiser for Ukraine refugees now resident in the Melksham area.
The choir sang a mixed programme of stirring and heartfelt songs including a Ukrainian lullaby and a prayer by a Ukraine-born composer, as well as chart hits, shanties, old chestnuts and songs from around the world.
Special guest was Amy Reed, (who stood in at the last moment after the original guest went down with Covid) and wowed the audience with a selection of great songs from the worlds of pop and musical theatre. After ticket sales and generous donations during and after the concert the concert raised £780.33 which will be spent supporting Ukrainian guests locally.
Macapello Choir is open to anyone who wants to sing with others: there are no auditions, no music reading is necessary and all are welcome. For more information email dave.soundworld@ gmail.com.
