THE winners of an anti-litter poster competition to encourage people to keep Melksham tidy have been announced.
The competition, arranged by Melksham Town Council, with support from Melksham Extended Services, drew 163 entrants from around Melksham, with first, second and third place awarded for both secondary and primary school age groups.
In the secondary school group, the winners, all from Melksham Oak, were Harry Harding with third Place, Syndi Armstrong with second, and Aleksandra Sikorska winning first place. For primary school age, the winning artists were, in third place, Kaitlin Jeffery of the Manor; in second, Lily Charman from Forest and Sandridge; and first place went to Jakub Beal of the Manor.
The poster drawn by Jakub Beal, from the Manor Primary School, was chosen by the Mayor Chris Petty to be the overall winner because of its colourful and simple message. Prizes for the winners were kindly donated by Melksham businesses. Edwards Stationery shop, on Bank Street, contributed art materials as prizes, and Candy Jax Sweet Shop in the Littlebrook Centre donated tubs packed with sweets for the winners, which were presented with certificates at end of year assemblies.
The winning posters will be displayed on notice boards throughout Melksham this month as part of Melksham Town Council’s ongoing commitment to tackle litter in the town and encourage people to take pride in Melksham.
