A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of stealing £2,000 worth of perfume from the Gompels pharmacy in Melksham town centre on 12th May.
At approximately 4.45am, an intruder alarm was activated at a pharmacy in the High Street.
Police officers were at the scene within 10 minutes and discovered approximately £2,000 worth of perfume had been stolen and a window had been smashed.
When the owner of the premises arrived an hour later, CCTV was viewed and officers used their local knowledge to help identify a suspect.
Alongside PCSOs, officers located a local man aged in his 40s at approximately 8.15am and arrested him on suspicion of burglary.
A large amount of perfume was also seized and has been returned to the owner.
Sgt Charly Chilton said: “This was excellent policing work by all officers and PCSOs involved who were able to swiftly identify a suspect and return the stolen goods to the owner – all thanks to some excellent local knowledge.
“We’d urge anyone who was in the High Street in Melksham between 4.30am and 5am this morning who may have witnessed the incident which occurred at D&M Gompels, to contact us immediately.”
