FORMER Melksham mayor, Sarah Cardy, ran her first ever marathon last month, raising over £1,200 for charity.
Running for Age UK Wiltshire, where she works as the chief executive, Sarah completed the Southampton Marathon in 5 hours 17 minutes.
“I enjoyed it more than I thought I would!” said Sarah, who was mayor of the town in the early nineties. “At the end I was so chuffed, it felt like a real achievement, especially as Southampton is so hilly – who knew Southampton had such steep hills!”
Running alongside Sarah in the marathon as support, was fellow Forest Fitness member, Darren Phillips.
“Darren did a great job of helping me around the course,” said Sarah. “And we couldn’t have done this without the support of Forest Fitness – different members have run with us during training, encouraged us, and supported us throughout.”
So far, Sarah has raised over £1,200, which will help fund Age UK Wiltshire’s befriending service. The telephone service make calls to people who are housebound and isolated.
