Market Place still open for business!

BUSINESSES in the Market Place are reminding customers that it is business as usual despite the lengthy construction work that has started.

Shopkeepers in the Market Place have noticed a fall in trade since the work began in January but are hoping that people will continue to support their businesses during the work.

Art House Cafe has seen a drop in takings since the redevelopment began and staff are worried about the next six months.

President of the Rotary Club, Sarah Hiscocks said, “Since the roadworks started in the Market Place our takings have reduced and we are worried as the less we take, the less we can give back to the community. We are proud of how we are able to help the community and some areas of the community rely on the funding we are able to give them.

“We know at the end of the works the location will be much more inviting and hopefully the café will then benefit from the changes, as people will want to spend time in the area.

“We’d like to remind people that we are still open and have a great selection of hot and cold food and a brilliant selection of homemade cakes, including gluten-free options, all served in a friendly and welcoming environment.”

Owner of Total Carpets, Steve White said, “We’ve definitely noticed a difference in takings. It’s not easy for people to pop in the shop and pick up a sample or have a look at our different ranges. Having no unloading bays is really inconvenient as well. In truth, since the work started it’s been a nightmare.

Manager at Refa Tandoori, Mr Uddin said, “Whilst we welcome the development of the Market Place, the construction work is affecting our business quite a lot. We have been very quiet and have seen a difference since it began.

“What concerns me is that it’s going to take six months. If they were to speed up, it would be completed quicker. Most days, there are only a couple of workmen out there so no wonder it’s going to take so long.

“I’d like thank all of our customers who have still been supporting us despite the inconvenience of the roadworks.”
