Spencer Melksham Bowls Club held its first trophy competition, The Mary Mitchell Trophy, played in memory of a founder member of the Ladies’ Section- Mary Mitchell, on 24th July.
20 members played three matches each to find the quarter finalists for the afternoon session. After two excellent semi-finals, father and son, Alan and Richard George faced each other in the final, with Richard, last year’s runner up, taking the title and the shield.
Several of the club players – Alan George, Kevin Mullett, Richard George, Matt Edwards and Andy Moore – are still going strong in the National Singles Competition. Andy Moore has also reached a regional final of the Family Pairs Competition and in the Wilson Trophy, Josh Mullett, Dave Hayward and Mike Over have reached the next round.
Club competitions have reached the semi-final stages with the finals weekend to be played early in September”
