What is your background?
I have lived in Wiltshire since 1985 and moved to Melksham in 2001. Having worked previously for H M Revenue and Customs and local firms of accountants, I decided that it was time for me to seek a new opportunity and am delighted to be working in my hometown for the first time.
What does your role involve?
As Assistant to the Town Clerk, my job could not be more varied. One minute, I can be talking to a member of the public about Remembrance Day poppies, the next, I am considering refurbishment projects and the next, I am designing a competition poster for school children to design and create signs reminding dog-owners to clean up after their dogs.
What do you enjoy most about working at the Town Council?
The fact that I do not know from one day (and sometimes even minute!) to the next what I will be doing. As a result, the days flash by. I am learning so much about Town Council procedures which is fascinating. I also enjoy being able to help members of the public too – and working here has really helped me feel like part of the community.
