MELKSHAM 3rd Brownies are seeking new volunteer leaders from February, amidst fears of closure.
The Brownie pack say they are at risk of closing if a new Tawny Owl isn’t found soon.
The current Brown Owl, Lynette said “It would be a great shame if this group had to close. Since taking the pack on 18 months ago, we have worked really hard to make it a success but it can’t continue as it is. We really need to find someone soon.”
The group says, “Girl Guiding has been running for over 100 years and the 3rd Melksham Brownies has around 20 girls who attend regularly.
“The current Tawny Owl unfortunately has to step down at the end of February, which has left the group short of a Guiding adult.
“Several parents have committed to helping out on a regular basis in the hope they can keep the group going until a new Tawny Owl is found.
“The role of Tawny owl is to be a second leader. They would need to do a qualification through Girl Guiding, complete a first aid course and safe guarding training – this is all paid for by Girl Guiding. They would need to commit to attend every Tuesday and assist with running the unit, working on planning the term’s activities and on the odd occasion, need to run the unit should Brown Owl not be there.
“Brownies is all about trying new things that teach girls aged 7 to 10 about themselves, their community and their world. It introduces girls to a world of new opportunities, challenges and fun!
“At regular meetings they get together with their friends where they learn new hobbies, get creative, explore other cultures and have outdoor adventures.
“Do you have any spare time on your hands or know someone who does, that may be interested in helping to keep this group alive?
“Currently the group meets on a Tuesday from 6-7.30pm. Contact Lynette (Brown Owl) on 07511 808400 for further information and register on the Girl Guiding website at https://go.girlguiding.org.uk /join-us/join-as-volunteer/
