CELEBRATIONS will be held across the country to celebrate the Queen’s official 90th birthday – and Melksham will be joining in the party atmosphere.
A whole host of special events are being organised by local groups and organisations to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday. There will be street parties, picnics, tea parties and a village fair with, of course, Union Jack bunting, Victoria sponge cake and pots of tea in abundance.
Join the rest of the country for what is sure to be the biggest party of the year.
Melksham Town Council has organised a picnic in the park on King George V playing field on Sunday 12th June.
The Queen’s Tea Party Picnic is a free public event from midday. There will be tea, coffee and soft drinks available and people are welcome to bring their own picnics, tables, chairs and blankets for the afternoon.
Also on Sunday 12th June, Shaw and Whitley will be holding a special village fair with children’s activities, adults village games and a dog show. The Pear Tree will be selling hot food and drinks and there will be tea and cake stalls, face painting and bouncy castles, tombola and a raffle plus much more.
There will also be a history exhibition in the village hall showing pictures and details of Shaw and Whitley over the last 90 years and a vintage car collection on show.
Community Action: Whitley and Shaw (CAWS) and the village hall committee is funding a free ‘Street Party Lunch’ for children aged 1-12. The lunch will include the usual party favourites, sandwiches, sausages rolls, crisps, fruit and jelly. Booking is required for the lunch and more details can be found on Shaw & Whitley Facebook page.
On Saturday 11th June, there is also a special celebration at Ebenezer Church in Union Street. Tea and cake, everyone welcome. And on Sunday 12th, The Friends of Seend School are holding a Royal Tea Party at The Pavilion and Lye Field, Seend. Lots of activities, £3 entry includes tea party. Red, white and blue dress code.
On Saturday 18th June, the village of Holt will host a special family street party at Holt Village Hall. The free event begins with a fancy dress parade led by Holt Morris from Ham Green at 1.30pm to the hall. There will be live music, children’s games, various stalls, a boule competition, skittles competition and more. There will also be teas, a bar and barbecue. Holt residents born before 1930 and children under 11 will receive a free cup of tea. The afternoon will end with a Ceilidh.
