BLESS Melksham ‘A Day of Prayer’ on Saturday 6th July was launched by local MP Duncan Hames and the mayor Chris Petty, who led prayer on the steps of Melksham Town Hall on behalf of all the churches of Melksham.
The large gathering spent time singing and praying before dispersing in every direction, to the entry points of the town, to make a simultaneous declaration of blessing over Melksham.
During Saturday every church building in Melksham was opened for prayer, and many special prayer meetings were held, including one where many members of Melksham’s special needs community took part, (SHINE). Many of the prayer meetings and fellowship gatherings were well attended and a special Messy Church was held at the Manor School. Messy Church is especially popular with families, some being introduced to the event for the first time. The Day of Prayer concluded in a celebration evening in the assembly hall, with nearly 200 people sharing a meal together before singing and giving thanks to God for the many sectors of the community.
The singing was led by a choir made up of people from many different churches in the town. The choir had such fun that they are planning to reform in September as the ‘Bless Melksham Choir’. The choir was complemented with sessions led by a modern worship band and the evening concluded with the choir and band combining to lead all assembled in the revival anthem ‘Build Your Kingdom Here’.
Sharon Firth, co-pastor of GoodNews Church said, “I’ve never heard so many people saying so clearly “That there is only one church in Melksham.”
