MELKSHAM Seniors celebrated the International Day of Older People last week with a fun day packed full of activities.
President of Melksham Seniors, Brian Warwick said, “It was absolutely fantastic, people kept coming in through the door throughout the afternoon – we had well over 90 people take part in the celebrations! It was an excellent success and went way beyond what we expected.”
At the jam-packed event held at the Forest Community Centre, party-goers took part in a ‘Sing and Smile’ session led by Sue Stone; exercised to music led by the club’s health and keep fit facilitator Clare Webber; listened to a talk from a local antiques dealer; discussed home security from Wiltshire Police; found out more about the support offered by Lowbourne Osteopaths and the benefits of joining Melksham Shed; and enjoyed an afternoon cream tea with cakes provided by Wiltshire Foods.
“Everyone enjoyed themselves and it was great to see everyone taking part in the various activities like movement to music,” said Brian, “people really let their hair down.
“The cream teas went down a treat, and the cakes on offer from Wiltshire Foods were scoffed up very quickly!
“What delighted me was the interest in the Wiltshire Police Bobby van and the fire brigade stand – people were intrigued by the safety features that both representatives were there to explain.
“The talks by the local antiques dealer and the Men’s Shed went down very well. And the stand from Lowbourne Osteopaths attracted a lot of attention.”
The annual celebration is just one of many events organised by Melksham Seniors. The group meet on the first Monday of the month, at Forest Community Centre to enjoy a wide range of outdoor and indoor games and activities that not only help to improve health, but also plenty of laughs. Every Thursday, the Melksham Seniors Activity & Social Club also meets at the Riverside Club.
