SCHOOLS across Melksham celebrated World Book Day last week with pupils (and staff) dressing up as their favourite book characters to mark the national event.
From staff at Melksham Oak School dressing as literary characters to inspire their students; to a visit from the author of ‘The Somerset Tsunami’, Emma Carroll, at River Mead School, World Book Day proved to be a big hit, packed full of events.
Over at Forest and Sandridge School, pupils enjoyed a ‘Big Booky Breakfast’ where the children came to school for breakfast and got to enjoy their favourite book with their friends and teachers.
And at Queensway Chapel Nursery, children brought their favourite stories in to read with their friends.
Summing up the meaning behind the national event, principal of Melksham Oak, Alan Henderson said, “We celebrate reading and aim to inspire students to see books as pleasure. This World Book Day was yet another opportunity for students to learn more about the wonderful literacy and stories available to them.”
