CHRISTMAS officially arrived for the Melksham Community Meals team this month.
Over 80 people joined the volunteers for their Christmas meal on Sunday 5th December in the Melksham Assembly Hall.
Director of Melksham Community Meals, Sue Mortimer, reports, “We had 84 people for the meal. Thank you to everyone for turning out on a winter’s day. After not being able to celebrate last year because of Covid-19 we were delighted to be able to welcome people back. Judging by all the lovely comments we had, everyone had a great time. The cooks, Elvy and Sue, really did us proud with an amazing Christmas Lunch.
“A big thankyou to Kerry and Ursula, our early riser volunteers who helped prepare all the vegetables. Big thank you to WJ Beaven’s for giving us a great deal on the turkey. People commented on how delicious it was and all wanted to know where it came from – so thanks again Will!
“Thank you to Gompels for donating us items to help keep the event Covid safe. Thank you to Melksham Town Council for giving us a grant for the hall hire. Thanks also to Bruce for putting on the Christmas tunes and all your hard work in getting the hall ready for us. We promise not to book the same week- end as the Christmas Lights switch on next year!
“New Resource Recruitment offered us a donation towards our Christmas meal for which we were grateful but as our budget/costs for the event were already covered, we passed the donation onto Melksham Community Dining. Louisa and her team were thrilled – they will be doing free meals on Christmas day at Bowerhill Village Hall. “The climate friendly crackers with wooden Christmas Tree decorations inside, instead of plastic toys were well received. “Thanks again to everyone involved: the cooks Elvy and Sue. The volunteers Kerry, Ursula, Patsy, Sally, Elaine and Summer; directors June, Pauline and myself, (our thoughts and prayers are with Roger, di- rector and secretary for Melksham Community Meals).
“And a special thanks to our new recruit Colin Goodhind who stepped in at the last minute when couple of the volunteers couldn’t make it and I was unable to call on my bank of reserve volunteers as my mobile was out of action!
“Hopefully by the time this goes to print I will have my mobile back so to book for the next meal at The Assembly Hall on Sunday 9th January 2022 please ring/text me, Sue Mortimer, on mobile number 07719 935 883 and we will see you in the New Year!”
