A CONGREGATION from Queensway Chapel are fundraising ahead of a mission trip in Argentina next year.
Seven members of the chapel aim to raise £5,000 to go towards the estimated £10,500 cost of the trip with the shortfall being paid for from their own savings. So far they have held two jumble sales, an Argentinian themed afternoon, cake, jam, knitted goods sales and a ‘Prize Every Time’ tombola have helped them raise over £1,000 with more events coming up. Coming up, another Jumble Sale next Saturday 13th December from 10am-noon at Queens-way Hall Pembroke Road.
They are heading to Jujuy in the North-West of Argentina on 27th July 2015 for twenty days of helping out in the community. The mission trip follows on from previous trips to places such as Ethiopia Romania, Tanzania, Uganda, Spain and France to name a few.
The idea of going to Argentina came about because one of the Queensway Chapel members, Emilio Martinez, is from Argentina and has knowledge of what help is needed in his country.
Another person taking part in the mission says, “We are really looking forward to going to Argentina to show God’s love in a practical way, befriending and working with people of all ages in the communities there. We feel we all return all the better for the experience. And especially great for our young people. Quite life changing for us all!
“Whilst there we expect to work and help two missionaries in the community on a variety of projects , attend bible college in the jungle, cooking for the students. Some typically English food perhaps?
Doing some refurbishment community buildings that need work, give out needed clothing and share some British culture. We will be staying with some of Emilio’s friends in Jujuy so we will also take them gifts for their hospitality.
“The money needed is mainly so we can pay for our younger members who are still in school or college so can’t pay for themselves. The rest of us are funding it from our own savings and estimate the cost to be about £1,500 each although we will keep costs down as much as possible.
“We are pleased with how much we have raised so far and grateful for the support shown to us by our Chapel and people in the community already, as we have raised some good amounts at the different events. We also planning a few more fun things to raise money including a Beetle (Llama!) Drive, a supermarket bag pack, a auction of promises as well as sponsored events.”
