The Melksham & District Historical Association’s final meeting of the year was the AGM and Ploughman’s Supper.
They report, “This is always well attended and enjoyed by all ,and the one in November 2019 was no exception.
“The business of the evening is always kept to a minimum with just a few short reports and the presentation of the accounts.
“In addition, this year members heard that due to planned refurbishment at our usual Assembly Hall venue, a change of venue will be needed as from 2021. Currently we also have use of a store room which needs to be emptied. Our archive of documents can all be housed at the Wiltshire & Swindon History Centre in Chippenham, but a new home needs to be found for the various items and artefacts.
“If there are any Melksham people who have donated items in the past and would like them back, will they please contact us as soon as possible, otherwise items will be dispersed to the best of our ability.
“With these disagreeable facts being dealt with, members were able to relax and enjoy entertainment from the excellent Melksham Ukulele Group, followed by the Ploughman’s Supper prepared and served by Glenys Moore and Viv Dwyer (with a little help from their friends)
“There were two Wiltshire-themed quizzes for members to attempt and the usual raffle, with numerous prizes generously donated by the members.
“All in all, a grand evening and thanks to all who helped it to be so, with a special mention of the Assembly Hall staff who always go the extra mile to make sure the evening runs smoothly.
Our next meeting is on Thursday 16th January at 7.30pm in the Assembly Hall. The theme for this year’s slides from our collection will be “Fire, Flood and Fun” presented by Tony Fivash.
“Visitors are always welcome at our meetings (£3).”
