As you may know, every year, Melksham Town Council awards grants to organisations, in order to bring real improvements to the local community and the lives of the people living there. Last year, I was fortunate to attend the ceremony when the grants were distributed. I was overwhelmed with the number of people and organisations who do work – mostly completely voluntarily – for the benefit of Melksham, and by the diversity of the projects and innovation represented.
There are a surprising number of people, organisations and businesses in and around Melksham who give of their own time and resources to help those less fortunate than ourselves, and who also work to make our town a place that we are proud to call our home. The churches of Melksham, with the help of the town council, are arranging an event to celebrate everything that is good about Melksham; the Melksham Civic Service.
The aim of the Civic Service is to give thanks for work done by all these groups of people, and it promises to be a joyous event. The service will give thanks to the Lord God for supporting good work in Melksham, however, it is intended to be enjoyed by and relevant to absolutely everyone in Melksham; people with different faiths and people with none.
The Civic Service will be held on Sunday 1st July at 2.30pm, in St Michael and All Angel’s Church. Refreshments will be provided afterwards at the Assembly Hall.
Please do come and join us in recognising the commitment, and selfless (and sometimes, no doubt, thankless) work done by so many for the benefit of our community – everyone is welcome to attend both the service and afterwards at the Assembly Hall. You will be very welcome.
