This issue we feature another of local woman Pam Muller’s prayers. Pam has published an illustrated book of her prayers called “Through the Years – Pam’s Prayers”, which is being sold to raise funds for St Michael’s and St Andrew’s Churches in Melksham, and St Barnabas’ Church in Beanacre.
Am I A Christian?
“If I’m good, am I then a Christian?
If I’m kind and give to the poor?
If I pay all my debts to the tradesmen,
And no one need knock at the door?
If I work from morning to evening,
Assist those who are not so well off?
And go to the Church on a Sunday,
Can I then say it’s good with my God?
If I keep myself well out of mischief,
And very much in with accord,
If I’m an easy, good living person,
Does that put me right with my Lord?
Will I then be eternally happy,
Or, is goodness alone not enough?
I’ve heard a lot about Jesus,
And reckon it’s excellent stuff.
What did he say to the rich man?
“Give away what you have, come with me”,
And later he died for all sinners,
Unloved on Calvary’s tree.
They were mostly good living people,
Or so it seemed at the time,
Then they thought about it later,
And realised the terrible crime.
They’d hung God’s wonderful Saviour,
Who never did anything wrong –
But came to earth to teach us,
That to God we should all belong.
Please teach me to follow You Jesus.
Forgive my sin, that matters the most,
Take away this barrier between us,
Christ within is the Happiness toast.
