The morning practice class of ‘flowers in a card’ was facilitated by Kay King, and it was agreed they would make a lovely gift for Mother’s Day or other event.
The chairman Rosalyn Clarke welcomed members and guests to the meeting and a short presentation was given by Lisa, the project worker of the ‘Doorway’ (moving on from Homelessness in North Wilts), the charity which the club will sponsor over the coming year. It also covers people in Melksham.
Rosalyn then welcomed the guest area demonstrator who was an old friend to the club – David Martin from Wroughton club with his title ‘Let Me Entertain You’. David commenced his demonstration with a homemade container – a slice of wood with sections of bark glued around covered in moss into which he placed purple liatris, gorgeous purple parrot tulips and lovely pink roses; he completed the design with loops of red midelino throughout the design.
The second design used a wonderful piece of driftwood into which he did a parallel design, using ferns, green Prado carnations and the ‘snowball’ plant in its green format. Continuing the green theme he completed with green hellebore and an enormous green cymbidium orchid. This was quickly followed by two hand-tied bunches of mixed tulips placed in tall clear glass vases. A basket arrangement using Rem purple anthuriums which looked like a load of butterflies and finished with two golden urns filled with gold gerberas, large gold chrysanths complete with gold Foxtail Lilies completed the demonstration.
David, who will be part of the team representing SW Area of NAFAS at Chelsea this year, is looking forward to the challenge as it is 25 years since the Area last competed.
