The Gardeners’ Society held their last meeting of the year on Tuesday 3rd of December, with Christmas wreath making, mulled wine and mince pies.
At the beginning of the evening a large pile of holly, ivy and other assorted greenery filled the centre of the hall, two hours later this had been transformed into a fantastic array of wreaths which will be adorning front doors across Melksham for the festive season.
At the end of the evening, the two best wreaths were selected and their creators were awarded prizes. First place went to Janet Kerr and second place was Julie Chambers.
This event is the culmination of a busy and successful 2024 for the society. The programme included coach trips to Forde Abbey and Kew Gardens, talks and demonstrations on growing food, foxgloves, the life of a Victorian head gardener, growing fruit and how to propagate plants.
The Flower and Produce show in September was once again a big success.
Plans for 2025 are almost complete with a full programme of speakers already confirmed, details can be found on the society website: www.melkshamgardenerssociety.co.uk.
New members and guests are always welcome.
