AN indie band from Melksham, The Sunnies, have won first place in the final of the Take the Stage Battle of the Bands at Chippenham’s Neeld Community Arts Centre. For their prize, they will perform at local festivals this summer alongside Scouting for Girls and Reef.
The Sunnies – made up of Jarrett, Lucas, Dan and Joe, aged 14 to 17 years old, won the competition last month that was judged by audience votes and music industry professionals.
The band will now perform this summer at Chippenham Pride as well as the main stage at the Minety and Nibley festivals, where Scouting for Girls and Reef will also play.
Dan said, “We are thrilled to have won the final of the competition. The festivals we will now play at are the biggest shows we have ever done. It’s going to be a really good experience. We’ve got two shows to play in one day so we’re hoping to hire a tour bus to transport us around. We are also planning on booking in other shows around that time too, to make it into a tour.
“We’ve never played outside before on massive main stages, so that’s going to be interesting. The only challenges I think this will present is nerves but I think we’ll be fine. We’re all really excited.”
Amy Louise Thomas who is the mum of Joe, who plays drums in the band, said, “We are all incredibly proud of the boys. They were up against stiff competition but played an amazing set of original songs and really impressed the judging panel. Their success is a culmination of hard work and dedication and is really well deserved.”
As well as preparing for the festival shows this summer, The Sunnies will be performing at the Thunderbolt in Bristol on 26th May. To listen to the band, visit Spotify and Apple music, where their new recently released single, Veridity, can be streamed.
