Melksham Lions had their 40th Anniversary lunch at Shaw House Country Hotel on 4th May.
The year of 1974 is captured in the black and white photograph when Melksham Lions had their first Charter Dinner in Melksham House, when The first Charter President, Stuart Beese was presented with the Charter Certificate by the then District Governor Bob Moore.
The later photograph was taken at Shaw House and is some of the Lions present membership, plus the District Governor elect Tony Buchan.
There are still three members of Melksham Lions who were at the original Charter, they are Stuart Beese, Roland Holdway and Simon White. In addition Melksham Lions were delighted to welcome John Iles and John Gay, who although no longer members, were able to join them.
Stuart managed to make contact with many of the former members and had some very nice letters and comments from them.
In addition, representatives also attended from the following Lions Clubs: Calne, Devizes, Frome, Highworth, Trowbridge, Bath and Chippenham.
Attendees said it was good to see members of the Devizes Club, as it was through the hard work of members of Devizes Lions that Melksham Lions Club was originally formed.
The Lions Club still carries out good work in Melksham and is looking for new members to help them continue their best efforts.
