A MELKSHAM mother is urging people to learn more about disabilities as part of trisomy awareness month which takes place throughout March.
Kylie Bewley’s son Dowie who attends King’s Park Academy suffers from Trisomy 8 (T8M) condition which can affect learning and speech and can cause physical differences. She is urging those who don’t know much about the disability to find out more.
She said, “I would like people in Melksham and everywhere really to know more about trisomy and as it’s the awareness month, now is the perfect chance. There are quite a few Trisomy people in Melksham, it’s not just rare people like Dowie, it’s people with Down’s syndrome and Edward’s syndrome also.
“A trisomy is a type of polysomy which means there is an extra chromosome, instead of the normal two. This causes conditions such as Down’s syndrome, Edwards’s syndrome as well as others and is more common than people may realise. “
Kylie has posted a video onto Youtube about how the condition affects her son Dowie. This can be viewed by typing Dowie living with T8M into the search bar on Youtube.
