MELKSHAM Oak Community School is celebrating its GCSE results, a week after students achieved improved A-Level results.
58% of Melksham Oak GCSE students achieved at least five A*-C grades including English and maths. This represents just a 2% drop from last year’s record results, despite changes to the exam system making it significantly harder for pupils.
Andrew Spencer was among the top performing students after he achieved two A*, seven A grades one B grade and a distinction. He said, “I’m really happy, I didn’t expect to do so well.”
Joe Harris was also pleased with his results after getting three A* grades, two A grades and three B grades. He said, “I am really happy that the hard work paid off and that I got the results I wanted.”
Headteacher Stephen Clarke praised the hard work of his students and staff. He said, “We are delighted with the results again this year, especially in the light of the significant changes made to the exam system this year. The results reflect a tremendous effort by our students, supported by parents, staff and governors. Additionally, our students achieved an overall pass rate of 100% in A-level with an increase in their average points score. These results are above the government targets and they are a reflection of all the hard work.”
The excellent GCSE results followed a successful set of A-level results for the school as 100% of the students passed with grades A*-E.
Headteacher Stephen Clark added, “We had 100 per cent pass rate at A2 for the second year running. This is a great achievement. Every year it’s wonderful to see the students happy.”
