THE Royal British Legion in Melksham launches this year’s Poppy Appeal at the end of the month. The organisers are hoping to have another record breaking collection this year.
Poppies will be available from shops, pubs and clubs from Saturday 28th October until Saturday 11th November, with volunteers collecting and selling lapel badges, crosses and Poppy Appeal items in Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Asda stores during this period.
New Poppy Appeal organiser, Trevor Paterson, who has taken over from Ken Graham, is looking for volunteers to help beat last year’s total of £24,045 to man their tables in the above stores.
“People can offer to help for as many hours as they can spare and we will be grateful for any contribution!” he said.
“We were very pleased with last year’s collections. Melksham and surrounding villages have donated very generously to our charity.”
