KING’S Park Primary School has now opened its doors as an academy school.
An academy is a type of school that is independent of local authority education control but is publically funded, with some sponsorship.
The primary school now has this status after linking up with United Learning, which is a group of 30 academics and independent schools. As part of United Learning, the academy will have access to a wide range of educational support and staff will benefit from United Learning’s high-quality professional development opportunities.
Becky O’Brien, acting headteacher of the primary academy said, “We are all delighted to have become an academy and to have joined United Learning. Today follows a thorough consultation with staff and parents who, together with the governors, strongly welcome our move to academy status.”
“With the support of United Learning, we can put in place the measures needed to move the academy forward. We have already begun to work closely with advisers from United Learning and we look forward to continuing to work together.”
Welcoming King’s Park Primary School into United Learning, Rob Carpenter, director of primary provision for United Learning’s southern region said, “I am delighted that King’s Park is joining United Learning.
“As an academy, it will retain its ethos, culture and everything that pupils, parents and staff currently value about it. Our priority will be to address the challenges that currently exist and put in place the structures needed to ensure the school makes strong and sustained improvement.
“King’s Park Primary School joins a growing number of primary schools in our group and we look forward to working with Becky O’Brien, her colleagues, governors and pupils and their families.”
