Remembrance Sunday was observed in the town as Melksham residents and organisations gathered to remember those who have been killed and wounded in past and current conflicts.
Large crowds lined the streets to view the Remembrance Sunday march on 9th of November from King Street car park, through the town to Church Street, and on to St Michael’s Church for a service.
Those participating in the parade included; The Royal British Legion, Royal Air Force Association, St John Ambulance, the Police Force, Wiltshire Fire, Melksham detachment of Wiltshire Army Cadet Force, the Air Training Corps and Melksham Scouts and Cubs.
Following the church service, wreaths were laid at the Canon Square cenotaph, before the procession marched back to King Street car park.
Another service was held at the Canon Square cenotaph on Tuesday 11th November at 11am when two minutes’ silence was observed.
Kenneth Graham of the Royal British Legion said, “This year, we hope to raise as much as possible from generous donations of Melksham people to the Poppy Appeal.
“There was a great turn out on the day and a massive thank you to everyone who attended and made it what it is.”
Each year, the Poppy Appeal raises millions of pounds across the country for those who have been affected by war or conflict.

The Melksham Poppy Appeal meetings now take place on the second to last Wednesday of each month at the Conservative Club.
